Amanda "Kat" Thomas

Howdy! My name is Kat Thomas, and I am originally from Dallas, Texas. I recently graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor's in Communication and am now pursuing a Master's in Human Resource Management. My current role is with Texas A&M's Division of Human Resources where I support the department of residence life. Being one of Texas A&M's largest departments, I assist with onboarding, payroll, and employee support for over 500 staff and student workers. This role has given me the opportunity to have hands on experience with both the technical and relational aspects of HR.

My passion for HR comes from personal experience. In one of my earlier jobs during my undergraduate years, I worked hard to go above and beyond, but I often felt like my efforts were taken for granted. It was discouraging, and it made me realize just how much being heard and appreciated affects not only how you feel about your work, but also how motivated you are to contribute. That experience has stayed with me me and fuels my commitment to creating workplace cultures where employees feel their voices matter, where they are valued, and where they can thrive. Working in HR gives me the unique opportunity to help shape workplace culture and ensure that what happened to me does not happen to others.

Outside of my education and work, I am also working towards my pilot's license. Flying has taught me a lot about discipline, adaptability, and staying calm under pressure. These are qualities i have found that directly translate into my professional life. Whether i am in the air, office, or classroom, I thrive on challenges that require me to take on new experiences.

Ultimately, I am excited to start my career in HR, where I can bring together my technical skills, my passion for employee support, and my drive to make a positive and lasting impact for the places I work.
